What you are buying

CaringDictate is a one-time license for the CaringDictate Windows application. The license is for one person and may be used on up to three of that person's own computers. The license includes lifetime updates — whenever we release a new version of CaringDictate, you receive it as a free update.

How long the license lasts

Forever, on the version of the software available at the time of your purchase plus any future versions we release. If CaringDictate as a company ever ceases operations, we commit to releasing the last version of the software publicly so that existing license holders continue to have a working copy.

Permitted use

You may:

• Use CaringDictate on up to three of your own personal computers
• Use CaringDictate for any lawful purpose — personal, professional, creative, medical
• Modify your local CaringDictate configuration files (settings, dictionaries) freely
• Make backup copies of the installer for personal use

You may not:

• Distribute, sell, or sublicense CaringDictate to others
• Use CaringDictate in violation of any applicable law
• Reverse-engineer the software or its license-validation mechanism for the purpose of circumvention
• Use CaringDictate for the bulk transcription of audio you do not have rights to (this would be unusual since CaringDictate is designed for interactive dictation, not batch transcription, but we mention it for clarity)

What you own

The text you produce using CaringDictate is yours. The license to CaringDictate gives us no rights over what you write with it. We do not claim ownership of, license to, or any interest in the content you dictate.

The CaringDictate software itself remains our property, licensed to you under the terms above.

About the recognition technology

CaringDictate includes Whisper Large v3 Turbo, an open-source recognition model released by OpenAI under the MIT License. The model is bundled with CaringDictate for your convenience but remains subject to its original MIT license terms. We comply with that license and pass through the redistribution rights you receive.

Updates and changes

We may update CaringDictate from time to time. Updates may include new features, improved recognition, bug fixes, and compatibility updates for new Windows releases. All updates are included free of charge with your license.

We will not introduce a paid tier or subscription requirement for existing license holders. Future versions of CaringDictate may introduce premium tiers, but the base functionality you purchased will remain free in your license.

Limitation of liability

CaringDictate is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, either express or implied. We do not warrant that the software will meet your specific requirements, that it will be uninterrupted or error-free, or that any errors will be corrected.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, in no event shall CaringDictate or its operators be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including but not limited to loss of profits, data, or use, arising out of or in connection with this software.

Our total liability to you for any claim arising from this software shall not exceed the amount you paid for your CaringDictate license ($49 in most cases).

Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties or limitations of liability, so the above may not apply to you. The purpose of these limitations is not to escape responsibility — we stand by our software and respond to support requests personally — but to provide standard legal protection that all software requires.

If we discontinue the product

If CaringDictate ever ceases active development (whether due to acquisition, project closure, or any other reason), we commit to three things:

• Releasing the final version publicly so existing license holders continue to have a working copy
• Providing reasonable notice (typically 12 months) before any service shutdowns that affect license validation
• Offering a license-validation bypass for existing customers if our license servers are retired, so the software continues to work indefinitely

We make this commitment because many of our users depend on CaringDictate for daily communication. We will not strand them.

Privacy

See our privacy policy. The architectural commitment to local processing — your voice never leaves your computer — is permanent.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which CaringDictate is operated. Any disputes shall be resolved in those courts. If you are a consumer in a jurisdiction with stronger consumer protection laws (such as the EU or various US states), those laws apply to the extent they grant you stronger rights than these terms.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. Material changes will be communicated to license holders via email and through a notice on this site. Continued use of CaringDictate after an update constitutes acceptance of the new terms.
